Welcome to my blog

A blog is simply an online 'diary' where each new entry appears at the top and you as a reader can comment (note: your comments will be seen by all who visit). You may also email me information/ views/ questions privately at forgotten_camberwell@yahoo.co.uk. Where you see information underlined, you can click on it to visit other websites and find more information.

This blog is to inform and perhaps inspire residents living around Southampton Way, SE5/SE15/SE17. You should first read the main information by clicking here, then participate by reading other posts and having your say by clicking on the 'comments' icon after each entry.

Also, if you live in the area described please take the survey. You'll find a permanent link along the right-hand side. The more views we get the better sense we'll have of what the community wants.

Enjoy!

This is really great. I've taken the survey and hope to hear things are moving along. It's about time. Great stuff!

Great to see someone taking an interest in this forgotten corner. I live in the area and have been documenting the demolition of parts of the Elmington Estate, particularly the large block at the end of my street, which has now gone. My pics are on Flickr here.

Tommy- a brilliant site. Well done!
This would be a great way to find out more. Two tings I would like to add are:

How do people feel about Coleman Road becoming a one-way street from the top of Southampton Way? I'm thinking of organising a petition and have had to take evasive action by jumping into gardens in Coleman Road as school mothers and delivery drivers pass down the road and mount the pavement.
Also is it me, or do other people feel the 343 is a poor service? I have to wait 20 mintues to get a seat in the mornings 8-8:30 if I can get on at all and I get on opposite the dry cleaners on Southampton Way going into town. There should be more buses during this time. If I tried to get on at Cottage Green it would be impossible! The service seems to be the poor man's relation when compared to the Walworth Road buses from Elephant and Castle!

Tommy - brilliant idea!

Andrew - I agree, the 343 service is *appalling*. When they put the new ones into service a couple of months ago, I thought it was the start of a new era, and the first couple of weeks were great. Buses arrived frequently, but sadly, it's detiorated into the same old problematic service.

It is tempting to just walk up to Camberwell sometimes and get a bus from there!

Your site is brilliant. We live in the area and are so happy to see someone taking such an interest. We keep on seeing cranes going up and buildings coming down but no-one tells us what's going on. It would be great to have a real community here, perhaps a good pub would help.

Is the estate opposite 183 and running past the Galliard Homes development going to remain?

Tommy, Excellent site I wish you well, please keep us informed, Re. the 343, I wonder how many remember the service prior to it. It took over 30 years to get it. A Tube, Train, or Tram. Unfortunatley I wont live to see it.
